Apartments are individually owned so there is no one place to approach about renting an apartment in Cathedral Place. The best source to research renting an apartment is on realestate.com.au. Most rental units have a car parking space allocated although this may not always be the case depending on how the owner wants to advertise the apartment. Researching Fortitude Valley Rentals and Cathedral Place Apartment Rentals
Generally, the best website for researching Fortitude Valley rentals and Cathedral Place apartment rentals are on the realestate.com.au website. Fortitude Valley covers quite a large area from Boundary Street bordering the Brisbane CBD, right down to Skyring Terrace bordering Bowen Hills and Newstead. Cathedral Place is closer to Brisbane City so it makes its location suitable for anyone working in the Brisbane CBD.
Searching the whole of Fortitude Valley can return a lot of results so it helps to know how to refine Cathedral Place rentals only. Using search terms like “41 Gotha St, Fortitude Valley”, “Cathedral Place” or even “studio apartments for rent Brisbane” does not work. The Cathedral Place address, while generally unified under 41 Gotha St, Fortitude Valley can use a secondary address depending on what street the apartment faces. For example, F block is also known as 592 Ann Street, B/C block 131 Wickham Street, etc. Confusing I know, but that’s the way things are.
Try the method below as you are sure to find all the properties listed in Cathedral Place for rent where you can do some research. It’s best if you use a desktop computer of some type as it’s a less frustrating exercise!
Step 1 – Do a search on realestate for Fortitude Valley, QLD 4006
Visit realestate.com.au, select the “Rent” tab and type “Fortitude Valley, QLD 4006”. Click Search.
Step 2 – Use the Map selection to refine Cathedral Place by location
This step maybe better when using a desktop computer.
Step 3 – Zoom in on Cathedral Place between Gotha Street and Gipps Street
Cathedral Place occupies a fairly large area of land. A whole block to be more precise. The bordering streets include Wickham Street, Gotha Street, Ann Street and Gipps Street.
Things to take into account when renting an apartment at Cathedral Place
As mentioned earlier Cathedral Place apartments are owned individually so every rental can differ. Here is a check list of things to factor when renting an apartment. You can then compare other apartments to make sure your are getting the best deal.
How many bedrooms does the apartment have? Naturally, the more bedrooms the more expensive to rent.
How many bathrooms does the apartment have?
Is an allocated car space provided?
If there is a car space provided, is it located on Basement 1 or 2? (ie B1 or B2). B1 is easier to get in and out of the complex.
Is the apartment facing internally or externally? Generally, internal-facing apartments are quieter because you don’t get the street noise. Also, the view over the internal pool is better than facing the street. Possibly a subjective viewpoint although I think you’ll find this is the consensus.
What is the condition of the apartment? Some apartments are old and tired, some have been renovated.
What block is the apartment in? Some of the apartment blocks are larger than others ranging from five to nine levels. You may prefer to be in a smaller block or possibly would enjoy the view that the taller blocks provide.
Rental Period Terms
Standard Apartment Rentals
Rentals in Queensland are generally a 6 month or one year term depending on what agreement the apartment owner has with their real estate agent. So you’ll need to enquire about this with the real estate agent before lodging an application with them.
Short Stay Accommodation
Some owners do opt to rent their apartment out on a short stay basic. Anyone looking for short stay accommodation at Cathedral Place, make sure to read the Short Stay Accommodation & Cathedral Place Reviews page.
Are Cathedral Place Rentals Cheap For Brisbane?
Cathedral Place apartment rentals would be considered competitive, if not slightly cheaper than other apartment complexes close to the Brisbane CBD. As you may already be aware Brisbane apartment rental vacancy rates have been rising over the years so negotiation is definitely in favour of the tenant. You can always try your luck at a cheaper rental price!
How Does Cathedral Place Compare to Other Brisbane Apartment Buildings?
Most notably in favour of Cathedral Place is the mid-rise height of the complex. Instead of a high-rise complex going straight up, it’s more spread out which allows for a large internal swimming pool and BBQ area. Quite uncommon for apartment buildings so close to Brisbane city. Having said this, there is one thing that generally can’t be escaped in inner-city living, and that’s noise. When choosing an apartment I would favour the inner facing units as they don’t get the traffic noise that the outer facing units do. Cathedral Place has three major roads on its perimeter, Gipps, Ann and Wickham streets. Gipps st would be the loudest as it carries the traffic going over Story Bridge.

Properties for Sale at Cathedral Place, Brisbane City Apartments
Location: 41 Gotha St Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Queensland 4006
Looking to buy Cathedral Place apartments for sale in Fortitude Valley? Well, you are generally in luck because of the large size of the complex. There are roughly 500 apartments and usually, 10-20 of those are listed on the Real Estate website at any one time.
Things to consider when buying an apartment in Cathedral Place
Inward or outward-facing Apartments are built around the block perimeter. Outward-facing apartments look out to either Gipps St, Ann St, Wickham St or Gotha St. Most inward-facing apartments look onto the internal pool and recreation area. Inward facing apartments are generally quieter, not having the street traffic noise. Although, on weekends even inner facing apartments can get echoing noise from the pool area and any parties. However, 24hr weekend security usually has any loud noise under control.
What Block to choose As explained on the Cathedral Place Brisbane home page, there are eight residential blocks made up into five distinct body corporates, A – B/C – D/E – F – G/H. Each block has a letter assignment and a title, eg D block “Canterbury” and vary in the number of levels. A and F blocks are the tallest buildings at nine levels which still only makes Cathedral Place a mid-rise complex in terms of Brisbane inner-city standards. Some people may prefer smaller blocks, however, the larger blocks on the top levels do command wonderful views of the city and surrounding Fortitude Valley.
Body Corporates The astute owner-occupier (or investor) may want to consider the body corporate levies and organisation of the body corporate your proposed apartment purchase may be under. To add, Cathedral Place has a Community Body Corporate that covers the running and expenses of areas common to all body corporates.
Entitlements It’s worth looking at the number of entitlements the apartment you are looking at purchasing. This will affect the amount you pay in body corporate levies. My understanding is that entitlements are factored on the number of square metres the apartment occupies and what level it resides on.
Residential Car Park The Cathedral Place car park is located underneath the complex on two levels, basement 1 (B1) and basement 2 (B2). When purchasing an apartment, while probably not a deal-breaker, B1 car parks are generally preferred being more accessible to the car park entrance.

Centenary Place Brisbane Photo: Cathedral Place Brisbane
Centenary Place
While not a standout attraction to Brisbane, Centenary Place is the most immediate landmark next to Cathedral Place. It’s really just a small park that people use to chill out in and watch the cars go by. However, it does have a history. Originally the Catholic church had a large part to play in it’s development with the Holy Name Cathedral to be built where Cathedral Place now stands today. Fascinating in the 1960’s and 70’s Centenary Place was a speaker’s corner for public speaking on a Sunday. Individuals soapboxing on a variety of issues of the day.
Chinatown, Fortitude Valley, Brisban Photo: Cathedral Place Brisbane
Chinatown Fortitude Valley was opened in 1987 and is located only one street away from Cathedral Place. Offering a wide selection of restaurants such as Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Korean. There is also a Chinese supermarket.
Brunswick Street Mall
The Brunswick Street Mall is the hub of the nightlife in Fortitude Valley with clubs, pubs, bars and restaurants. There is some retail shopping but definitely under-represented in comparison. It can be found one street along.
Story Bridge
Story Bridge is the iconic bridge built in 1940 that joins Fortitude Valley to Kangaroo Point. Located only a short five-minute stroll away from Cathedral Place.

Underneath Story Bridge is the new entertainment destination, Howard Smith Wharves. Experience restaurants, Felons locally-brewed beverages and local entertainment. There’s plenty of outdoor space and fantastic views of Brisbane city and the Brisbane River. See the Howard Smith Wharves website for more information.
James Street Precinct
Heading further down Ann Street away from the city is James Street. It has a number of upmarket stores and restaurants and well worth the visit. There’s a nice little cinema down that way too. Walk time, about 10-15 minute stroll from Cathedral Place.
Queen Street Mall
The Queen Street Mall is the main Brisbane mall and generally very busy and has a large range of stores. Definitely, the place to go if you’re wanting to visit a larger department store or be amongst the city population hive. Walk time, about 15-20 minutes from Cathedral Place. There are also buses that stop directly outside Cathedral Place that can take you into the city or further onto South Bank.
Eagle Street Pier
Eagle Street Pier and Riverside is a very scenic part of Brisbane looking over the Brisbane River. Also, in the backdrop is the iconic Story Bridge so bring your camera to take a few snaps. You can also catch the free CityHopper ferry which is worth the experience. There is also the cat ferry if you need to go further down the river and a little faster.
Originally the site of Cathedral Place was owned by the Catholic church. A cathedral named “Holy Name Cathedral” was intended to be built there in the 1920’s by Archbishop James Duhig. Unfortunately, things did not go to plan and the construction was not realised.
There are quite a number of articles on the web about this history which makes interesting reading
